Hyaluronic Acid and How It’s Benefits for Your Skin and Appearance

Hyaluronic acid or HA has been getting a lot of hype in recent years, and it has been incorporated in many skin care products and treatments. But what exactly is it and what does it do? HA is naturally found in the body in places such as your skin, connective tissues, eyes, and joints. It’s a viscous material that is used for moisture retention and lubrication. Notice how when you move your joints, normally it’s a smooth, fluid motion? That’s partially thanks to HA.

In skin care and treatments, HA gives you that glowy, dewy look that has been on trend for the past several years. If you have dry or dull skin, this is the ingredient you need in your life. Additionally, HA has an important role in fillers. While there are permanent fillers available on the market that sound appealing, they might not be as good as the tried-and-true traditional fillers. Permanent fillers are NOT reversible, and what makes them permanent also makes them irritating to the body. Your body recognizes these substances as foreign and tries to get rid of them. In the process, granulomas and nodules begin to form defeating the purpose of getting the fillers in the first place. Instead of smooth skin, you are left with nodules around your face in some cases. Since they are not reversible, you need to surgically excise the fillers. HA fillers have a low chance of developing granulomas since they are formulated to be temporary (6 months – 2 years), and they are reversible! This means if you don’t like the look they give, a simple injection can naturally and comfortably dissolve the filler.
